London & South East Market Director

Department for Transport
Central Government
GBP c.£130,000

The Passenger Services Directorate sits within the Department for Transport’s Rail Group, and acts as the interface between government’s rail ambitions and the organisations that run rail services. The rail agenda has grown significantly in the past decade, and the delivery of rail services in the UK is increasingly in the public and political spotlight. The rail network now carries more people on more services than it did 5 years ago, and as a result there are significant pressures placed on those responsible for meeting this demand. Passenger Services works closely with the rail industry, from procurement to delivery, to ensure that services are delivered in-line with the needs and expectations of our passengers.

We are now seeking a Markets Director for London and the South-East, to provide the technical, commercial and personable leadership to help shape the policy and strategy behind rail services in the region, and engage with the industry to translate this strategy into deliverable projects and programmes. You will play a central role in some of the largest procurement programmes in government and the wider public sector, and throughout the franchise lifecycle you will maintain key stakeholder relationships with major rail owning groups and the Rail Delivery Group in order to keep passengers at the heart of strategy and operations.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader, able to engage with credibility across a complex landscape of public and private sector stakeholders. You will be experienced in supporting the development of policy or strategy, and you will have experience of major public-sector procurements. An in-depth understanding of the rail sector will be key to achieving success in this role.
