World Land Trust (WLT) protects the world’s most biologically important and threatened habitats acre by acre. Founded 25 years ago we have proven again and again that simple propositions are the most effective: saving land saves species.
Breaking away from traditional methods of conservation, we look at entire landscapes rather than individual species to create reserves that give permanent protection to habitats and wildlife. We don’t own land ourselves. We work with partners on the ground, who own and manage the reserves created with funds from WLT. To date we have played a key role in the purchase and protection of nearly half a million acres of land. However, buying land is just the beginning; we help fund ‘Keepers of the Wild’ who are employed by our partners to help protect WLT-funded land - we never lose sight that the management and ultimate ownership of land lies with the appointed local conservation group.
Having nurtured the organisation from its inception our Founder and current Chief Executive John Burton is stepping aside. We’re looking for a talented and driven leader to build on his success and lead us through our next exciting phase of growth and evolution. Supported by a highly committed Board of Trustees, you will deliver our current strategic objectives and set our future strategy. Externally, you will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and act as the figurehead for WLT in the public domain.
You will be a confident and inspirational leader with vision and flair, and a deep understanding of conversation issues. Strong experience of leading growth and change will be crucial along with sharp business acumen and a successful track record of building funding and support. Our relationships are particularly important to us and you will also be an outstanding partnership builder with natural credibility and influence who can engage with a range of partner organisations, media and supporters.
Above all, you will share our commitment to the very real impact WLT has on some of the world’s most endangered habitats. In return we offer a truly unique opportunity to lead an innovative and visionary organisation, but one that has its roots planted firmly in the ground.
