Our client, an NHS Mental Health Provider, is seeking an experienced and highly credible Interim Associate Director of Nursing to provide leadership across Adult Inpatient Services. This is a significant senior nursing leadership opportunity for an accomplished Registered Mental Health Nurse with extensive experience of leading acute and crisis mental health services, driving quality improvement, strengthening patient safety, and providing assurance against regulatory standards.  The successful candidate will play a pivotal role within the senior leadership team across a large patch, providing visible nursing leadership across a complex portfolio of services and supporting the continued delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care.

The Opportunity

Working as part of a collaborative triumvirate leadership model alongside Associate Directors for Operations, Medicine and Psychology, you will provide professional nursing leadership across Adult Acute and Crisis Services. You will work closely with frontline teams and senior colleagues to strengthen quality, governance and assurance frameworks, support service improvement initiatives, and ensure services are well positioned to meet regulatory requirements.

This role requires a confident and respected nursing leader who can quickly establish credibility, provide constructive challenge, and support teams through a period of continued improvement and development, to ultimately ensure patients receive safe, effective support during periods of severe mental distress.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide senior nursing leadership across Adult Acute Inpatient and Crisis Services.
  • Lead on patient safety, quality governance, clinical assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Support regulatory compliance and organisational preparedness for external inspections and reviews.
  • Promote high standards of patient care, patient experience and professional practice.
  • Work collaboratively with operational, medical and psychological leaders to deliver service objectives.
  • Provide visible leadership and support to nursing teams across the service.
  • Drive improvement initiatives and embed a culture of learning, accountability and excellence.

About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate that they possess:

  • Current NMC registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
  • Significant senior nursing leadership experience gained within acute and/or crisis mental health services
  • Experience of operating at Associate Director level, or in a comparable senior nursing leadership role
  • Strong expertise in patient safety, quality governance, risk management and clinical assurance
  • Experience supporting regulatory compliance and CQC preparedness.
  • The credibility and professional authority to lead across complex multidisciplinary environments.
  • Strong partnership-working skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across organisational boundaries.
  • A compassionate, resilient and improvement-focused leadership style, coupled with a visible and supportive approach to frontline engagement

Interested?

We plan to submit a shortlist to our client before the 23rd of November and would welcome conversations with suitably qualified candidates as soon as possible.

If you would like to be considered, please email the following information:

  • Your up-to-date CV and any supporting information that would be useful.
  • Your availability to start and notice period requirements.
  • Your salary/day-rate expectations.
  • Your current working pattern and ability to undertake regular on-site attendance.

Important Information

Due to the anticipated volume of interest, we will only be able to respond to candidates whose skills and experience closely match the requirements of the role. Applicants must be able to demonstrate qualifications and current NMC registration, significant senior nursing leadership experience within mental health services, together with a strong track record of quality improvement, patient safety, governance and regulatory assurance.
