Interim Director of Strategy & Partnerships – NHS Provider Trust

Duration: Approx. 6 months (interim assignment)
Location: North of England with 3 days required on site

Our Client, an NHS Provider organisation, are currently seeking an experienced and influential Interim Director of Strategy & Partnerships to fulfil a current gap in their leadership team. This is a high-profile Board-level opportunity for a strategic NHS leader with a strong track record of strategy development, organisational planning, governance and system partnership working. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the Trust's strategic delivery framework and ensuring robust assurance against organisational priorities.

The Opportunity

Working closely with the Chief Executive, Executive Team and Board, you will build on the Trust's existing five-year strategy, ensuring it is translated into clear delivery plans, measurable outcomes and effective assurance processes. You will provide strategic oversight across strategy, planning, communications, partnerships and integration, bringing challenge, pace and direction to an established and capable directorate.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership, stability and support to the various Teams and Managers that report into this role
  • Lead the Q3 and Q4 planning assurance process
  • Begin development of the 2027/28 planning round, ensuring alignment with the Trust Strategy and Medium-Term Plan.
  • Refine partnership principles and support implementation across the organisation – establishing the organisation from a System and Neighbourhood perspective in the patch

About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate that they possess:

  • Significant strategic planning and organisational strategy delivery experience gained within an NHS Provider organisation
  • Strong governance, assurance and performance management expertise
  • Extensive experience working across complex NHS systems and partnership environments
  • Credibility and resilience to operate effectively at Executive and Board level
  • The ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead within a politically sensitive environment
  • A collaborative but challenging leadership style and experience of providing oversight, scrutiny, direction and momentum across the portfolio. Regular visibility and engagement across teams and stakeholders will be essential.

Interested?

I plan to submit a shortlist by Wednesday the 14th, with applications required by Tuesday 13th October.

If you would like to be considered, please email the following information:

  • Your up to date CV and any supporting information that would be useful
  • Your availability to start and the number of days per week you can commit (minimum 3 days on site required, with travel across the Trust footprint).
  • Your salary/day-rate expectations – the salary for this role will be between £125-140k (paid as an employee on a fixed term contract)

Important Information

Due to the anticipated volume of interest, we will only be able to respond to candidates whose skills and experience closely match the requirements of the role. Applicants must be able to demonstrate significant strategic planning, assurance and partnership experience gained within an NHS Provider environment, together with the credibility to operate effectively at Executive and Board level.

Applications should be submitted via email no later than Tuesday 13th October.
