We are currently supporting our client, an NHS Organisation in the North of England, who are seeking an experienced Interim Associate Director of Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance to support the strengthening of Clinical Governance frameworks and assurance processes.

This is a hands-on role focused on improving how governance works in practice, particularly ward-to-board assurance, escalation, and embedding learning. You will assess current arrangements across divisions, identify gaps, and implement practical improvements to ensure the Board has clear visibility and confidence in governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess divisional governance arrangements across divisions
  • Attend and observe governance meetings to assess effectiveness and information flow
  • Identify gaps between clinical and corporate governance and support alignment
  • Provide a clear, independent view of priority areas, risks, and required actions
  • Support stronger audit utilisation and demonstration of learning, particularly where themes are recurring
  • Work closely with divisions to embed learnings to improve how the organisation captures, escalates, and responds to risks and incident
  • Working closely with the Risk, Corporate Governance and Clinical Audit Teams to ensure a seamless, joined up approach, strengthening ward-to-board assurance processes, including escalation and reporting

Essential Experience

  • Significant senior leadership experience within an NHS Trust with a strong track record in clinical governance, corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead on investigations, assurance processes and regulatory responses including direct involvement in improvement processes across a range of activities
  • Strong understanding of: Clinical governance and patient safety, risk, audit, and assurance processes, ward-to-board reporting and escalation
  • Experience supporting organisations in strengthening governance following CQC inspection or regulatory scrutiny
  • Ability to operate as a hands-on delivery lead, not purely strategic or advisory
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at divisional and Board level
  • Clinical registration is not an essential requirement for this role. Candidates should demonstrate significant senior experience in clinical governance, patient safety and regulatory compliance within an NHS setting.  A clinical background is desirable,  but equivalent senior governance expertise will be considered.
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience, desirable – clinical registration, or governance/risk/quality related qualification/ regulatory experience
  • A Standard DBS is required for this role

How to Apply

If you would like to apply for this position, please submit an up‑to‑date copy of your CV demonstrating how you meet the essential criteria, along with your availability, desired rate, and contact details.
