Lead with purpose, shape the future of healthcare in Gwent.

This is an exceptional opportunity to become Chief Executive of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and lead the next chapter of our ambition for the health and wellbeing of the people of Gwent.

Our ten-year strategy, Gwent 35, sets out a clear ambition: that by 2035 everyone across Gwent should have the same opportunity to live a long and healthy life. Shaped through engagement with our population and stakeholders, it focuses our organisation and partnerships around three ambitions: Better Health, Better Care and Better Lives.

We are now seeking an outstanding Chief Executive who can turn this ambition into sustainable improvement for our communities, patients and people.

The opportunity

As Chief Executive and Accountable Officer, you will provide strategic leadership to a large and complex healthcare organisation, working with our Board, Executive Team, colleagues and partners to deliver high-quality, safe and compassionate care while improving performance and securing long-term clinical and financial sustainability.

You will lead transformation across our health and care system, accelerating prevention and earlier intervention, tackling health inequalities and supporting more people to receive the right care closer to home.

Partnership will be crucial. You will build trusted relationships with our communities, local authorities, primary and social care, the third sector, Welsh Government and colleagues across NHS Wales.

You will also play an influential national leadership role, helping shape the future of health and care in Wales.

The leader we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced, credible and values-led leader with the strategic capability, resilience and ambition to lead through significant complexity and change.

You will bring a strong track record of:

  • leading within a large and complex organisation or system;
  • translating strategy into measurable delivery and improvement;
  • driving transformational change and improving organisational performance;
  • maintaining a relentless focus on quality, safety and patient experience;
  • working effectively across organisational and professional boundaries;
  • building high-performing, inclusive leadership teams;
  • developing strong and trusted partnerships;
  • leading culture change and creating environments where people can thrive and speak up;
  • managing significant resources responsibly and sustainably; and
  • influencing effectively at Board, system and national level.

Above all, you will be a visible, authentic and compassionate leader who embodies our values of Kindness, Integrity and Respect.

This is a challenging role, but also an extraordinary opportunity to make a lasting difference to our organisation, our people and the communities of Gwent.

If you share our ambition for Better Health, Better Care and Better Lives, we would be delighted to hear from you.
