The Retail Energy Code Company (RECCo) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a crucial role in the operation of Great Britain’s retail energy market. As owner and manager of the Retail Energy Code, RECCo oversees the rules and vital services that enable the market to operate effectively, while driving improvement and innovation and supporting positive outcomes for consumers.

The retail energy market is entering a period of significant change. Decarbonisation, digitalisation, regulatory reform and the increasing use of data are reshaping how energy is supplied and managed. Government has identified the effective use of data and digitalisation as critical to reducing system costs and enabling consumers to access greater choice and improved services. RECCo will play an important role in this transformation, both as a consumer data domain coordinator and provider of infrastructure.

Against this backdrop, the Board is seeking to appoint a new Non-Executive Director with significant digital, data and technology expertise. Joining an established Board with a broad range of sector and functional experience, you will provide independent insight, constructive challenge and strategic guidance as RECCo develops its digital and data agenda and considers the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and wider innovation.

You will help the Board navigate the opportunities, risks and ethical considerations associated with new technologies, ensuring they are adopted responsibly and effectively. You will bring particular insight into digital and data transformation, data strategy and governance, cyber security, artificial intelligence and the responsible use of consumer and market data, while helping to ensure investment and decision-making remain aligned with RECCo’s mission and long-term strategic objectives.

As importantly, you will contribute across the wider responsibilities of the Board, bringing independent judgement to RECCo’s strategy, performance, governance and risk management. You will help the organisation anticipate emerging trends and opportunities, while championing digital inclusion, accessibility and sustainable, future-focused approaches to technology.

We are looking for an accomplished digital, data or technology leader with significant senior leadership experience within a large and complex organisation, gained as a CIO, CDO, CTO, Chief Data Officer or in an equivalent senior role. You will have experience of operating at, or providing strategic advice to, Board level and a strong track record of leading significant digital and data-enabled business transformation.

You will bring a strong understanding of the strategic management of data, including experience of data standards and open data access arrangements, alongside knowledge of data protection, AI and AI ethics, cyber security frameworks, threat landscapes and risk management. You will also understand the strategic, operational and ethical implications of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies and be able to translate that expertise into effective Board-level challenge and decision-making.

Alongside your technical expertise, you will bring the judgement, independence and credibility to contribute across the full breadth of the Board’s responsibilities, engaging effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and providing constructive challenge to support RECCo’s long-term success.
