The Retail Energy Code Company (RECCo) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation with a central role in the operation and evolution of Great Britain’s retail energy market. As owner and manager of the Retail Energy Code, RECCo oversees the rules and vital services that enable the market to operate effectively, while driving improvement, innovation and positive outcomes for consumers.

The retail energy market is undergoing significant change. Decarbonisation, digitisation, changing consumer expectations and regulatory reform are reshaping how energy is supplied and managed, creating both opportunities and risks for consumers. Against this backdrop, effective market arrangements, services, data and infrastructure will be increasingly important in supporting fair access, informed choice, appropriate protections and better consumer outcomes.

While RECCo does not have a direct relationship with end consumers, the decisions it takes and the services, infrastructure and market improvements it enables can have an important impact on their experiences and outcomes. Ensuring that the consumer perspective is properly understood and considered is therefore central to RECCo's role and mission.

The Board is now seeking to appoint a new Non-Executive Director with a strong consumer perspective. Joining an established Board with a broad range of sector and functional expertise, you will provide independent insight and constructive challenge, helping to ensure that consumer interests and outcomes are appropriately reflected in RECCo's strategy, priorities and decision-making.

You will bring an informed and credible consumer perspective to Board discussions, helping colleagues understand how RECCo's activities and interventions may affect different groups of consumers, including those in vulnerable circumstances. You will challenge the organisation to consider consumer needs and experiences, accessibility, fairness and potential unintended consequences, while encouraging evidence-led, inclusive and consumer-focused decision-making.

We are looking for an accomplished leader with significant experience at Board or senior level in roles where consumer interests, needs, experiences or outcomes have been a material consideration. Your experience could have been gained within a large or complex organisation, a regulated sector, consumer body, public interest organisation or equivalent.

You will bring a strong understanding of consumer needs, behaviours and sources of detriment, alongside knowledge of consumer protection, vulnerability, accessibility, inclusion and fairness. Crucially, you will be able to translate that expertise into strategic challenge and decision-making

You will be comfortable considering the consumer implications of complex market, operational, data and technology developments and weighing potential benefits against risks, trade-offs and unintended consequences.

Alongside your consumer expertise, you will bring the judgement, independence and credibility to contribute across the full breadth of the Board's responsibilities, providing constructive challenge, engaging effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and supporting RECCo's long-term success.
