Non-Executive Director

Great British Energy Nominee

Help shape the future of UK industrial growth and clean energy.

As Great British Energy (GBE) develops its approach to portfolio stewardship and long-term value creation, opportunities are emerging for experienced Board leaders to support strategically important businesses across the clean energy landscape. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a business with significant growth potential while helping to shape the relationship between public investment, industrial strategy and commercial success.

The Role:

As Great British Energy's nominee Non-Executive Director, the successful candidate will join the Board of an investee company and support the Board's consideration of key strategic priorities, including technology development, manufacturing scale-up, project delivery, commercial growth and market expansion. The appointee will also play an important role in supporting GBE's understanding of their investee’s strategic progress and development, operating at all times within the statutory duties of a director and agreed information-handling protocols.

The Candidate:

GBE is seeking an experienced and commercially minded leader who can provide strategic insight, independent judgement and constructive challenge while contributing to the company's long-term value creation and sustainable growth.

The ideal candidate will be a board-level leader with a strong track record of supporting growth, scale-up and value creation within industrial, technology or manufacturing-led businesses. They will bring a strong technology or capital equipment OEM background, with a deep understanding of how to generate recurring revenues from deployed assets.

They will also possess experience of driving commercial growth in emerging or evolving markets, including developing new revenue streams, building strategic partnerships and creating sustainable demand through innovative commercial models.

Equally important is the ability to operate effectively at Board level, demonstrating sound judgement, a strong understanding of governance and fiduciary responsibilities, and the confidence to provide constructive challenge in a listed or comparable environment. GBE is also interested in individuals who have helped develop resilient UK supply chains, strengthened domestic manufacturing capability, or worked within engineering, technology or industrial process-led businesses.

Exposure to the energy sector, or clean energy technologies would be advantageous, as would experience of capital allocation, fundraising or operating within investor-facing environments.

Additional experience of working within regulated sectors, engaging with government or policymakers, or operating in markets influenced by public policy and industrial strategy would be an advantage.

Opportunities to join the Board of a business shaping the UK's economic and industrial future are uncommon. Opportunities to help define a new model of public investment, industrial growth and clean energy innovation are rarer still. This appointment offers the chance to play a meaningful role in the UK's industrial and energy transition while helping shape the future relationship between Great British Energy and the companies in which it invests.

We recognise that the strongest boards bring together a variety of experiences, perspectives and ways of thinking. We are committed to creating an inclusive appointment process and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications from groups currently underrepresented in board-level leadership.
