Help shape one of the UK’s most significant NHS transformations

Bristol NHS Group, bringing together North Bristol NHS Trust and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking two exceptional Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join its Board at a pivotal moment.

Following the formation of the Group in April 2025, the two organisations are preparing to formally merge in July 2026 to create a new Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest and most influential NHS organisations in England, serving 1.5 million people, employing 28,000 staff, and delivering services across 13 sites with a £2.6bn turnover.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new organisation at scale, driving improvements in patient care, population health, innovation and value for money. We have a clear ambition to become an Advanced Foundation Trust, as we look to become a leader in research, innovation and integrated care.

We are looking to recruit to two NED positions, one to chair our Finance and Infrastructure Committee, bringing strong financial oversight and assurance as well as strategic estates or capital invest expertise, and the other to bring experience in population health, public health, or commissioning to support us to strength our partnership working as we deliver our strategy aligned to the NHS 10 Year plan.

For both of the roles, we are looking for candidates who can provide independent judgement, support and constructive challenge at board level, with a good understanding of governance, financial stewardship and risk management. You will be values-driven, inclusive, and motivated to make a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of local communities.

If you feel your experience could fit with this, and you can see your values reflected in your own, then please contact our advisors at GatenbySanderson to apply or to have a confidential conversation.
