York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (YSTHFT) is a large integrated acute and community Trust providing a range of acute hospital and specialist healthcare services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire, and Ryedale. With an annual turnover approaching £1 billion, our dedicated workforce of around 12,000 staff deliver care in community settings as well as across our 8 hospital sites.

Whilst we have seen considerable improvement to our service provision, as outlined in the updated CQC report which saw us move from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Requires Improvement’ with a rating of ‘Good’ in the domains Well-Led, Caring, and Effective, we continue to face a period of significant challenge as an organisation. Work is already underway to meet the requirements of the report and continue our improvement journey.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead large-scale transformation that will deliver tangible benefits for our colleagues and patients. We are now seeking to appoint a values-driven, inspiring, and inclusive Chief Culture and People Officer to join our Board.  Working in partnership with our Board and Care Group leadership teams, you will drive sustainable cultural change and ensure the delivery of our People Strategy as an enabler of the wider Organisation Strategy. Most importantly, you will role model our Trust values and actively promote a culture of kindness, openness, and excellence within the People Directorate and Trust-wide.

We are keen to attract any candidate either from within or beyond the NHS who share our core values and whose experience includes unionised environments and a multi-site workforce.  Whether from beyond the NHS or within, you will be a strategic and inclusive leader, most likely operating at board level in a complex organisation, or potentially immediately sub-board in a very large organisation.  With a track record of leading complex change and improvement, you will bring strong expertise in workforce strategy and planning, organisational development, and employee engagement. You will be a values-driven leader, with strong communication and influencing skills, able to build trusted relationships and engage staff at all levels, ensuring that our people feel heard, supported, and inspired.

We want our Board to be as inclusive as possible and are committed to increasing our Board diversity. We are particularly keen to attract candidates who bring diverse perspectives, and we welcome and encourage applications from the widest possible range of backgrounds.
