Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N) is at the forefront of delivering the UK's clean energy future. As part of the Government's mission to strengthen energy security and achieve net zero, we are leading the development of the UK's first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme.

We are seeking an exceptional Project Delivery Director (Owner's Scope) to provide leadership of a fit-for-purpose project delivery and oversight capability, with accountability for delivery of the Owner's Scope of the SMR project.

This is a unique opportunity to help establish and deliver a first-of-a-kind programme that will shape the future of nuclear energy in the UK.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Delivery Officer, you will establish and lead the Intelligent Client project delivery organisation, forming a critical part of the Senior Leadership Team of the wider Integrated Project Team.

You will be responsible for leading the delivery of the Owner's Scope of work, including enabling works, site ancillaries, associated developments, site characterisation and permissions. Working closely with technical, commercial and programme colleagues, you will ensure the successful planning, governance and delivery of this nationally significant programme.

As a member of the Integrated Project Team Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key role in shaping delivery strategy, managing interfaces and ensuring robust project controls are in place to support successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the project management team responsible for the Owner's Scope of the SMR project.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project delivery plans and schedules.
  • Lead project delivery activities across development, enabling works and site readiness.
  • Ensure effective governance, assurance and reporting arrangements are in place.
  • Manage project cost, schedule and resource performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including supply chain partners.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate programme and project risks.
  • Support regulatory engagement and ensure delivery activities align with all relevant requirements.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Capture and share lessons learned to support future SMR and nuclear programme delivery.

About You

You will be a highly credible senior project professional with significant experience delivering complex capital programmes within major infrastructure or other highly regulated environments.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrable leadership experience at senior project or executive level.
  • A strong track record of establishing and leading project delivery capabilities.
  • Experience of major construction and infrastructure programmes.
  • Knowledge of project alliance models and complex supply chains.
  • Experience working with NEC4 contracts.
  • Strong commercial, stakeholder management and organisational leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with senior leaders, Boards and Government stakeholders.
  • Experience managing high-performing multidisciplinary teams.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent.
  • Significant experience delivering large, complex capital projects or programmes.

Highly Desirable

  • Chartered Project Professional (ChPP).
  • MAPM or FAPM membership.
  • Experience within the nuclear sector or comparable highly regulated industries.
