Hampshire Cultural Trust (HCT) exists to change lives through culture. Across our museums, galleries, arts centres and heritage services, we create opportunities for people and communities to connect, learn and thrive. As we continue to strengthen our impact, diversify our income, and champion culture across the region, fundraising sits at the heart of our long‑term resilience and ambition.

We are now seeking an outstanding Director of Development to lead a trust‑wide approach to fundraising, one that plays to HCT’s strengths, unlocks new opportunities, and secures the investment needed to deliver our strategic vision. This is a rare opportunity to shape a step‑change in philanthropic support for culture in Hampshire.

As Director of Development, you will:

  • Lead and deliver HCT’s strategic fundraising approach, informed by deep sector knowledge and awareness of the UK funding landscape.
  • Set ambitious income targets and drive growth across all fundraising streams, including trusts, statutory funders, individual giving and major philanthropy.
  • Build and steward a strong donor pipeline, working closely with the Chief Executive, Board of Trustees, senior volunteers and a new high‑level supporter group.
  • Develop and lead a compelling philanthropy programme using a portfolio of designated funds to support strategic projects and revenue needs.
  • Create and oversee an effective trust‑wide structure for maximising grant opportunities and delivering high‑quality reporting.
  • Lead impact measurement frameworks that articulate the difference culture makes to communities and strengthen the case for support.
  • Manage delegated budgets, ensuring strong returns on investment, value for money and compliance with financial controls.
  • Champion equity, diversity and inclusion across all fundraising practice and help embed inclusive culture across the organisation.
  • Act as a key member of the Leadership Team, contributing to organisational priorities including sustainability, financial resilience and HCT’s ambition to reach net zero by 2030.

We welcome applications from individuals with:

  • Significant experience in fundraising, with a strong track record of securing income from diverse sources.
  • Experience developing and delivering successful development strategies.
  • A history of managing high‑performing teams and fostering strong relationships with senior stakeholders, donors and funders.
  • Success in securing five‑ and six‑figure philanthropic gifts and developing compelling proposals for trusts and statutory funders.
  • Strong working knowledge of charity finance, budgeting, Gift Aid, fundraising regulation and data protection.
  • An imaginative, collaborative and values‑led approach, aligned with HCT’s commitment to excellence, inclusion and shared responsibility.

HCT is a place where we aim high, think differently, and believe in culture’s power to transform lives. If you share this ambition, we would be delighted to hear from you.
