Context

Great British Energy Nuclear (GBE‑N) has a  mission to safely advance new nuclear projects that provide secure, reliable and sustainable energy for the UK. Our expert team is delivering the UK’s first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project at Wylfa on Anglesey in North Wales, and GBE‑N also owns a second viable nuclear site at Oldbury in Gloucestershire.

SMRs are smaller and faster to build than conventional gigawatt‑scale nuclear power plants. As delivery progresses, efficiencies are expected to be realised by applying lessons learned from the first unit to subsequent deployments.

GBE-N is planning to establish a Development Company (DevCo) that will deliver a SMR Project, working with a Technology Partner to deliver a First Of A Kind new nuclear power plant (NPP).  Until the DevCo is established the capability to manage and deliver SMR projects will be developed and delivered within GBE-N as an Integrated Project Team (IPT).

The Role

The Mobilisation Director is a senior leadership role within the IPT. This role will co-ordinate and deliver the mobilisation of all enabling capability (people, culture, processes, systems, governance with significant ownership of the required procurements) to ensure the Project is designed, integrated and enabled for successful delivery in Anglesey.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with the senior leadership of the SMR Project and the wider GBE-N team to have the DevCo stood up in line with GBE-N strategy, ensuring appropriate readiness criteria are met.

As a senior leader, you will initially play a key role in the stand up of capability within the SMR Project. As we mature as an organisation the role will, amongst others, evolve into challenging how we operate and bring about continuous organisational improvement with learning from other organisations. Due to the relative uniqueness of our structure and the environment in which we operate it is likely that in the first few years of the role there will be a range of “left field” requests to support in amongst the core aspects of the role. This is a fast-paced and exciting challenge, you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty, ambiguity and constant change.

 The Person

The ideal candidate is a proven senior leader with executive-level experience delivering major infrastructure projects within nuclear or similarly highly regulated sectors. You possess a track record of steering complex, large-scale transformations through periods of significant ambiguity. You will be practiced in stakeholder management and matrix leadership, and can influence at all levels, including unionised environments, while building and motivating multi-disciplinary teams. Technical proficiency in enterprise architecture, digitising capability, and government functional standards is highly desirable, underpinned by exceptional communication skills.
