Great British Energy - Nuclear (GBE-N) is an arm's length body of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, dedicated to supporting the development and deployment of new nuclear technologies in Great Britain. We play a crucial role in advancing nuclear new build, ensuring the UK's energy security and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. GBE-N focuses on fostering innovation, facilitating investment, and coordinating efforts across the nuclear industry to build a resilient and sustainable energy future.

In June 2025, GBE-N that Rolls-Royce SMR had been selected as the preferred bidder to build the UK’s first SMRs and in November 2025 the first build site was confirmed as Wylfa in Anglesey.

GBE-N is planning to establish a Development Company (DevCo) that will deliver a SMR Project worth in excess of £20Bn and working with a Technology Partner to deliver a First Of A Kind new nuclear power plant (NPP). The DevCo will in time transition to being the Operating Company (OpCo) and Site Licence Company for the NPP.

The Role

The Chief Delivery Officer is pivotal in initially setting up fit for purpose project delivery capability, and then in leading the design and construction of the SMR project. This is an extremely challenging role, both due to the scale and complexity of the project (a Top 10 sized project in the UK) and also due to the organisational context, with GBE-N itself in a start-up phase.

Therefore, your role is to build an entirely new delivery team. Other challenges include the need to build a collaborative / alliance structure with supply chain organisations and to work with an SMR technology that is in early stages of maturity.

You will be responsible to the Executive Project Director for the safe design and construction of the nuclear power plant and associated developments in Anglesey within the cost and schedule envelopes agreed for their delivery. You will ensure that we optimise digital and modular technologies to ensure the best delivery of the project.

The Person

Your expertise in Project delivery planning, project team building, setting design requirements, modular build enabled by digital delivery and commercial /supplier management will enable you to successfully lead the project team, mitigate risks, and drive successful project outcomes.

We are seeking a senior leader with proven executive‑level experience who can operate within a large‑scale alliancing environment. You will bring a strong track record in establishing and delivering major complex programmes, particularly in highly regulated sectors with annual spend exceeding £750m. The role requires deep expertise across project, programme and engineering oversight, including modular build and digitally enabled delivery, along with the ability to manage intricate contractor and supplier ecosystems within the UK supply chain.

You will combine sharp analytical and risk‑management capability with excellent communication and stakeholder leadership skills, adept at navigating competing priorities and driving high performance through matrix‑managed teams. A strong grounding in employee relations and team development, together with fluency in formal risk‑management frameworks, is essential to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related field or demonstrable professional experience
