  • Reference GSe130283
  • Closing Date 9am Monday 27th April 2026

The new role of Commercial Director for Health Innovation North West Coast comes at an exciting, even a pivotal, moment for this vibrant region, and it follows the publication in 2025 of the NHS 10 Year Plan and the Government’s Life Sciences Sector Plan which present a reimagined model of care rooted in science, technology, and patient empowerment. They aim to make the NHS the world’s most AI-enabled health system, leveraging genomics, precision medicine, and digital solutions to shift from reactive treatment to proactive prevention.

The economic and societal potential is extraordinary - scaling health innovation could unlock up to £278bn annually across the UK (nearly 10% of GDP) - and HINWC’s 5 ambitions seek to harness this potential.  The Liverpool City Region and Cheshire & Merseyside are emerging as nationally significant centres for health innovation and life sciences, and this role offers the chance to combine business development acumen, leadership skills, and an affinity with the work of the NHS in these technology-led areas of growth.

With responsibility for a team of 15, you will lead all aspects of our income generation and business development functions, manage the delivery of our work for the Office for Life Sciences and NHS England, and drive our growth strategy through the development and harnessing of relationships in industry, the region and the NHS.  An executive director role, this offers a great deal of autonomy and the opportunity to collaborate with global pharmaceutical, med tech and digital companies, whilst supporting SMEs, and building on major programme funding successes.

We are looking for experience of leading business development functions, developing meaningful strategic partnerships across multiple sectors, and an understanding of how to work with national bodies.  Project management skills will be needed, as will sound financial literacy.  Most of all, we are looking for someone who can bring pace and a transformational leadership style.  For a confidential discussion please contact Helen Barkham or Robin Staveley of GatenbySanderson on helen.barkham@gatenbysanderson.com.
