Leadership at the heart of specialist healthcare

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a leading specialist provider of eye care, with a strong reputation for clinical excellence, research, education and innovation. The Trust plays an important role locally, nationally and internationally, and is deeply committed to public service, patient care and the values of the NHS.

We are now seeking a new Chair to lead the Board at an important point in the Trust’s development. This includes the delivery of the new Oriel centre in St Pancras, a major investment that will bring together clinical care, research and education in a state‑of‑the‑art environment, shaping Moorfields’ contribution to eye health for generations of patients and professionals. Alongside this transformation, the Trust must continue to deliver high‑quality services, maintain strong governance and remain resilient within a complex and changing healthcare landscape.

As Chair, you will set the tone for the Board and the organisation as a whole, promoting robust governance, constructive challenge and sound long‑term decision‑making. Working closely with the Chief Executive, fellow Board members and the Council of Governors, you will help shape strategic direction, support effective leadership and foster a culture of openness, collaboration and accountability. You will also represent Moorfields externally, building constructive relationships across the NHS and with partners in research, education and life sciences.

We are looking for a leader with sound judgement, integrity and resilience, who understands the responsibilities of public office and the importance of transparency, accountability and trust. You will bring senior board‑level experience, a strong understanding of governance in complex organisations, and a clear appreciation of the NHS and the wider public service context.

Candidates are welcomed from within or beyond the health system, including those with backgrounds in academia, research, life sciences or the charitable sector, provided they bring a clear commitment to public value, patient care and effective healthcare leadership.

Moorfields is committed to inclusive leadership and to reflecting the diversity of the communities it serves. We encourage applications from candidates whose experience and perspectives will strengthen Board‑level decision‑making and stewardship.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a highly regarded NHS organisation, supporting the delivery of outstanding patient care while helping to shape its future at a time of significant transition and opportunity.
