Successful appointment: Director General for the Office for National Statistics

Alison Pritchard has been appointed to the role of Director General for Data Capability. She joins from the Government Digital Service (GDS), which she joined in 2018 as Chief Operating Officer, before becoming Director of EU Exit and Transformation and, more recently, its Interim Director General. In her new post at the ONS, Alison will remain a key figure in the government digital and data landscape

As The Director General for Data Capability at ONS, Alison will drive the transformation of data services available to analysts, decision-makers and the public, mobilising data held by departments and providing an authoritative and compelling public face for this agenda. 

We were delighted to be involved in the process to appoint Alison, and with more than three decades of experience within the Civil Service, working across a range of departments, we are sure she is the perfect fit; we wish Alison the best success at her new role at ONS. 

In the new role she will be responsible for leadership of all aspects of data capability at ONS, including the delivery of digital services, utilising data from across government and the private sector to enable the production of better statistics, and the transformation of business processes.
