Interview with Deepa Mann-kler, Lay Member to the General Medical Council

Following her appointment as Lay Member to the General Medical Council, Deepa Mann-kler talks to GS about balancing her non-executive responsibilities with her executive career.

She expands on how her lifelong interest in health outcomes and racial equality has helped add purpose and focus to her non-executive roles and the contribution she aims to make. For anyone who feels they might not fit a ‘mould’ as non-executive, Deepa gives lots of practical advice and encouragement in making those first steps and using the support available.

In her executive career, as Chief Executive of Neon and Visiting Professor of Immersive Futures with Ulster University, Deepa specialises in the use of immersive technologies for health. As a TEDx speaker and thought leader she regularly keynotes on the intersection of digital transformation, technical innovation, inclusion, ethics, bias, data and AI. Deepa is author of the first report on race discrimination with policy recommendations for the public sector in Northern Ireland  “Out Of The Shadows.” As an artist Deepa has a strong focus on public art light installations, notably Light Up Leicester 2020, Lumiere Durham 2019, London 2016 & 2013 in Derry/Londonderry UK City of Culture.
