Local Government: who’s new and who’s moving on?
GatenbySanderson’s quarterly update on the movers and newcomers in local government.
- Cath Shaw – appointed as LB Barnet’s permanent Chief Executive, having been interim since June.
- Andrew Travers – appointed as LB Richmond and Wandsworth’s Interim Chief Executive, joining from Southampton City Council.
- Georgina Blakemore – Chief Executive of Epping Forest District Council has stepped down due to ill health. Strategic Director Andrew Small is acting Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Gould is acting Deputy Chief Executive.
- Shelley Kipling – appointed as permanent Chief Executive at Oldham MBC.
- Ashley Hughes – appointed as Executive Director of Resources & S151 Officer at Cheshire East Council, joining from Tameside MBC.
- Chris Allman – appointed as Director of Planning and Environment at Cheshire East Council.
- Karen Grave – appointed as Director of People at Cheshire East Council.
- Dami Awobajo – appointed as Assistant Chief Executive at Cheshire East Council.
- Mark Barrow – is stepping down as Shropshire Council’s Executive Director of Place after 40 years of public service.
- Joe Harris – is stepping down as Leader of Cotswold District Council in May. He will be focusing on his role as a leader of the Liberal Democrat Group at the LGA.
- Sam Crowe – appointed Interim Chief Executive at Dorset Council, acting up from his role as Director of Public Health.
- Greater Lincolnshire Combined Authority have made several interim appointments:
Lee Sirdifield – appointed Head of Paid Service.
Lisa Tremble – appointed Monitoring Officer.
Guy Lonsdale – appointed Section 73 Chief Financial Officer. - Edward Highfield – appointed Executive Director of Place at the East Midlands Combined County Authority.
- Richard Williams – appointed Executive Director of Resources at the East Midlands Combined County Authority.
- James Clark – appointed as Director of Housing Services at Sheffield City Council, joining from Rotherham MBC.
- Taryn Eves – appointed as Director of Finance at LB Haringey, joining from West Sussex County Council.
- George Graham – is retiring from the South Yorkshire Pensions Authority at the end of 2025.
- Catherine Chilvers – appointed as the new Managing Director of Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation.
- Katherine Hammond – appointed as Chief Executive of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. Taking over from Martin Swales in May.
- Edna Boampong – appointed as Director of Communications and Engagement at Liverpool City Council.
- Michelle Drewery – appointed as Deputy Chief Executive and S151 Officer at King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council.
- Mark Parkinson – appointed as Chief Operating Officer at King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council.
- Alan Reiss – appointed as the Director of Operations of The North East Combined Authority.
- Dave Smith – his term as Managing Director Commissioner at Thurrock Council has been extended.
