Bloodwise is an ambitious charity, with a fantastic heritage and compelling purpose. We are going through a period of major change and this is a particularly exciting time to join as Chair. You will work with our new Chief Executive, and our Trustee and Executive team to re-focus our vision, develop a new strategy and ensure we invest in the right priorities to secure increased impact on the lives of those with blood cancer. 

Blood cancer is the third biggest cancer killer with more people dying each year than from breast cancer. With nearly 40,000 patients a year diagnosed in the UK, blood cancers are the 5th most common cancer type. For almost 60 years, Bloodwise has raised funds for blood cancer research. We support four out of five blood cancer researchers, and fund about half of the specialist blood cancer research in this country. In the 1960s, over 90% of patients died within five years, many within a few months. Today, survival rates have increased to 70% and we carry forward an inspiration and determination, which has been with us since our inception, to continue until we have beaten blood cancer.

A significant record of achievement gained at a very senior level, ideally as Chair or Vice-Chair, is essential for this appointment. We’re looking for an inspirational and engaged leader with an established reputation, highly-developed influencing skills and unquestioned integrity. You will be someone who knows how to get the best out of a diverse and highly committed Board, making it more than the sum of its parts. You will be personally invested in what we do, willing to leverage your own networks, adept at bringing people and organisations together and comfortable on public platforms.

We have a wide network of stakeholders and supporters and you’ll be highly skilled at building and strengthening relationships with people both across the organisation and public life. Crucially, you will share our values and determination to stop people dying from blood cancer.
