Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health, learning disability, and autism services to more than 2 million people across County Durham, Tees Valley, North Yorkshire, and York. Our dedicated staff operate out of more than 90 sites, with a strong commitment to partnership, co-production, and putting our patients at the heart of everything we do.

Whilst we have made significant progress in improving our services, we remain rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ by the CQC. With a new Chair and Chief Executive, and a refreshed Board in place, we have a renewed focus on transparency, improvement, and learning. We are committed to building a stronger, safer, and more compassionate organisation for the future, and everything we do is guided by ‘Our Journey to Change’ and our Values: Respect, Compassion, and Responsibility. With a Public Inquiry into our Trust now announced, we are supporting the process with transparency, openness, and humility, taking meaningful action to ensure that we continually improve as an organisation.

We are now seeking two outstanding Non-Executive Directors to join our Board. Accountable to our Council of Governors and the public, and reporting to the Chair, you will provide constructive challenge, strategic oversight, and robust governance, helping us to shape our culture and hold the organisation to account.

For the Chair of the Quality Committee, we are seeking a Registered Nurse with board-level leadership experience or equivalent, and a deep expertise in quality, safety, and clinical governance. For the digital transformation Non-Executive Director, we are looking for a transformational leader with a depth of knowledge of the digital agenda, someone who can support and challenge the Board in how we utilise the benefits of digital technologies such as our new Electronic Patient Record. For both roles, you will be a values-led, strategic leader, with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to our values.

We want our Board to be as inclusive and diverse as possible, and we are keen to attract candidates who can bring diverse perspectives, and or personal and lived experience of the services we offer. We warmly welcome expressions of interest from the widest possible range of backgrounds, particularly those who are under-represented at board level in the NHS.
