Shaping Places. Strengthening Communities. Stewarding the Future.

The Land Trust is a unique national charity committed to transforming and sustaining green spaces so that communities across the UK can thrive. Our work blends environmental stewardship, social impact, health and wellbeing, and long‑term place‑based investment. From nature‑rich landscapes to vibrant community parks, our sites provide vital breathing spaces that support healthier, happier, more resilient lives.

With an ambitious strategy and a growing national portfolio, we are seeking three new Trustees who will help us build on strong foundations and ensure the Trust remains innovative, impactful, and financially sustainable. This is an opportunity to contribute to a mission that improves quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people every year.

We are seeking individuals with expertise in Finance, Property, and Social Impact—people who combine professional credibility with a commitment to our values and a passion for better futures for people and planet.

As a Trustee, you will:

  • Provide independent judgement, strategic leadership, and constructive challenge across all areas of the Trust’s work.
  • Support the development and delivery of long‑term aims and objectives, ensuring we remain ambitious, inclusive, and impact‑driven.
  • Uphold our values and ensure we meet our obligations to all stakeholders and communities we serve.
  • Ensure the Trust is financially sound, well governed, and operating with strong risk, legal, and performance management.
  • Help shape culture, standards, and strategic direction, including oversight of the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Champion responsible use of charitable funds and the long‑term stewardship of our assets, landscapes, and investments.

Our values underpin everything we do: Respect, Ambition, Collaboration, Responsibility, Inspiration and Agility.

We are now seeking Trustees with expertise in the following areas:

Finance

You will bring senior financial leadership, ideally as a Finance Director, senior accountant, investment or private equity professional, and play a key role on the Finance and Audit Committee. You will oversee financial performance, audit processes, reserves, risk, and long‑term planning, ensuring the Trust remains robust, compliant, and sustainable. Analytical, incisive and strategic, you will provide constructive challenge and support as we grow and diversify our income and safeguard our assets.

Property

You will bring strong expertise in property management or development, perhaps as a chartered surveyor, planner, or experienced housing or land professional. You will provide strategic oversight via the Property Committee on acquisitions, maintenance, compliance, stewardship of our estate, and long‑term asset planning. With a strong understanding of risk, legislation, and sustainability, you will help ensure our places remain safe, resilient, and environmentally responsible, bringing both commercial awareness and social purpose.

Social Impact

You will bring deep experience in social impact, community engagement, diversity and inclusion, or health and wellbeing. Sitting within the People Committee, you will champion the voices of residents and local communities, ensuring our programmes deliver meaningful benefit and social return. You will bring insight into best practice at the intersection of people, place, equity, and wellbeing, helping us maximise impact across our national portfolio.

Who We’re Looking For

Across all roles, you will bring:

  • A belief in the Land Trust’s vision, purpose and values.
  • Strategic thinking, independent judgement, and the confidence to offer constructive challenge.
  • A collaborative, inclusive style, working effectively with senior executives and fellow Trustees.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and analytical skills.
  • The ability to make informed, sometimes difficult decisions in the best interests of the charity.
  • Sufficient time and commitment to fulfil the role, including Board, Committee, site visits and strategic events (c.10–12 days per year).

The Land Trust is committed to broad and diverse representation across our Board, and we warmly welcome applicants from all backgrounds, experiences and identities.
