Double success for Catherine Dixon

Double success for Catherine Dixon – newly appointed Director General at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and work record holder.

‘Resilient, energetic and adopts a creative approach to remote working’, were just some of the immediate thoughts that came to mind when Katrina Paget, Head of our Regulation and Professional Standards Practice, first assessed Catherine Dixon for the role of Director General at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. How prescient these observations now seem in the light of the current pressures facing leaders to protect, their staff, customers and business.

For Catherine, however, drawing upon these skills came to the fore over nine months ago when she embarked on the goal to set a new world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world on a tandem. With her friend, Rachael Marsden, Catherine cycled around the globe in 263 days, beating the previous all male record of 281 days and raised over £35,000 for Oxfam and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

It was during this adventure that Catherine applied for the Director General role, participating remotely at every stage. Katrina comments,

“Catherine presented as ambitious and focused with a clear understanding of the sector we were appointing to. Her drive and energy for the role were evident by the way she engaged with us through the process, despite being thousands of miles away whilst undertaking such a huge personal challenge.”

We wish Catherine every success in her new role and look forward to further appearances from ‘Alice’ – the record breaking pink tandem.
