Help Shape the Future of an International Animal Welfare Charity

Around the world, 100 million working horses, donkeys and mules power the daily lives of an estimated 600 million people. They carry food, water and goods; support small businesses; and enable families to build more secure livelihoods. When these animals struggle, communities struggle with them - many face preventable suffering due to harsh environments, limited access to veterinary care and the pressures of poverty.

Brooke exists to change this. As the leading international charity dedicated to improving the welfare of working equines, we reach more than 1.4 million animals and 1.1 million people each year across South Asia, Africa and Central America. Our approach spans community-led programmes, systems strengthening, advocacy, and partnerships that help improve animal welfare and support community resilience.

As we prepare to launch our next global strategy, we are seeking two new Trustees to join our highly engaged Board and help guide the organisation through its next chapter.

The Opportunities

Trustee - Fundraising

You will bring senior, broad-based fundraising expertise to support and challenge our income strategy. Whether your experience lies in individual giving, digital fundraising, major donors or restricted income (including institutional, corporate or foundation funding), you will help ensure Brooke continues to diversify, innovate and grow sustainably.

Acting as a thought partner to the executive team, you will contribute to long‑term planning, investment decisions and supporter engagement. Your insight will help strengthen our financial resilience and unlock new opportunities to expand our work globally.

What You Bring

For both roles, we are seeking individuals who are:

  • Deeply committed to Brooke’s mission and values
  • Confident in providing constructive challenge and independent judgement
  • Skilled at interpreting complex information and contributing to high-quality governance
  • Collaborative, compassionate and able to work as part of an engaged and supportive Board
  • Clear on the difference between governance and operational delivery
  • Passionate about improving animal welfare and strengthening communities globally

We warmly welcome applications from first‑time trustees with relevant expertise.

Time Commitment

  • Four Board meetings per year (Wednesdays, hybrid)
  • Committee membership (Finance Committee for Fundraising Trustee; Governance Committee for Safeguarding Trustee) - approx. 4 meetings per year
  • Optional international programme visits to see our impact first-hand
  • Approx. 10–12 days per year

Why Now? Why You?

Joining Brooke’s Board is an opportunity to contribute your expertise to work that ripples far beyond a single meeting room. Your decisions will influence programmes that keep families moving, animals healthy, and communities resilient in places where support is often scarce.

If you want your professional insight to make a tangible difference - not only to animals, but to the people whose futures are bound to them - we would be delighted to hear from you.
