The Role

This is a rare opportunity to lead enterprise architecture at scale, shaping the digital backbone of NHSBSA’s national services, joining at a time when NHSBSA is delivering some of the most ambitious digital transformation programmes in its history. As Head of Enterprise Architecture, you’ll define and deliver a strategic architectural vision that supports transformation today and innovation tomorrow. Reporting to the Director of Cyber and Technology, you will lead talented architecture team, embedding a strategic, horizontal view across services. You will be a trusted advisor to senior leaders as you lead the evolution of this maturing architecture function, working alongside senior leaders in a culture that values clarity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide architecture strategy aligned with NHSBSA’s business goals.
  • Chair the Enterprise Architecture Board and Technical Design Authority, ensuring governance and cohesion.
  • Inspire and lead  a team of Enterprise Architects, fostering a culture of collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across NHSBSA and beyond to shape technology decisions and drive transformation.
  • Horizon-scan for emerging technologies and trends, translating them into strategic opportunities.

We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate:

  1. Strategic Vision & Delivery – Proven ability to align enterprise architecture with business strategy and deliver measurable outcomes.
  2. Leadership in Change – Experience leading architecture teams through transformation in complex, evolving environments.
  3. Stakeholder Influence – Excellent communication and influencing skills at all organisational levels, including Director-level engagement.
  4. Architectural Expertise – Deep knowledge of TOGAF and modern architectural practices, including cloud, APIs, and microservices.
  5. Innovation & Resilience – A forward-thinking mindset with the resilience to lead through ambiguity and inspire confidence.
