Supporting with FE External Board Governance

Last year as part of the reforms set out in the Skills for jobs white paper the Department for Education (DfE) released guidance on strengthening governance within your sector.

As part of the guidance, FE Colleges and Sixth Form Colleges are now required to carry out an annual self-assessment of governance and three yearly external governance reviews. We have been speaking with our clients across the sector and know that looking at and understanding best practice in external governance reviews is something the sector takes very seriously.

You may have already begun this process, but if you haven’t or require further support, GatenbySanderson have vast expertise in supporting our clients with external board reviews and board development. We can provide support with one off Board Reviews, or provide tailormade board programmes to diagnose and develop better boards and achieve greater clarity of purpose, strategic leadership and strong governance.

A successful External Board Review should allow you to maximise the strengths of your directors and Board highlighting areas for future development. Along with research into effective boards we have delivered a wide range of external reviews which have included:

  • High level evaluation of board and committee structures and arrangements
  • Board Skills Matrix based on the purpose of your strategic plan
  • High level view of Board culture, dynamics and behaviours
  • Further Board Development Programmes.
