We are delighted to announce Bradford Council as the winner of the GatenbySanderson sponsored Innovation in Building Diversity & Inclusion Award at the MJ Achievement Awards 2021. Congratulations, also, to both Somerset West and Taunton and West London Alliance, London North West Healthcare NHS Trust and Ealing Council, for their highly commended entries, and to all the other winners and commended on the night!
Bradford Council demonstrated a systematic and integrated data driven approach to understanding the needs of diverse communities in Bradford (both established and new migrant communities), using local knowledge, partners and ambassadors to engage local people. The judges took particular note of the success at recruiting ethnically diverse participants to COVID-19 trials, which is of critical importance and sadly not replicated in many other research trials. They highlighted the strength of local partnerships and leveraging research and intelligence infrastructure during the early stages of the pandemic to deliver effective data-led public health interventions that saved many lives. We saw this approach as having a much broader application beyond the pandemic. It is commendable how it is now being used to tackle other long-standing health inequalities in Bradford.
A big thank you to our judges, who spent a great amount of time thoroughly reading a record number of entries for our Innovation in Building Diversity and Inclusion Award; Nancy Scott (Partner, GatenbySanderson), Steve Douglas (Chief Executive, St Mungo's) Ganesh Sathyamoorthy (Assistant Director for Partnership, ARC, Northwest London, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS FT), Anita Bhalla (Chair, Creative City Partnership), Tony McArdle (Chairman of the SEND Leadership Board and an independent adviser to the Government’s SEND Review), Balwinder X Kaur (Co-Chair of the ADASS EDI action group), Mark Hodgkinson (Chief Executive, Scope) and Peter Molyneux (Chair Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Co-Chair Health and Care LGBTQ+ Leader’s Network at NHS Confederation).
