Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) is seeking an exceptional Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) to work in partnership with our newly appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in providing professional leadership to doctors across our community and mental health directorates. This is a pivotal clinical leadership opportunity – the post holder will sit as part of the Trust’s Senior Leadership Team and will work with stakeholders internally and externally to help shape the future of healthcare in one of the most distinctive and beautiful regions of the UK.

We are an NHS community and mental health provider trust supporting the health and wellbeing of over 570,000 local people who call Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly home, with demand for our services inevitably increasing during holiday periods.  Our care is delivered to people at home, in the community and in hospital - we operate from 100 sites with clinical teams working across four operational service lines.  We have an enthusiastic and passionate workforce of over 4,500 people, who are all dedicated to delivering our vision of Outstanding Care for All. Our culture and values place people at the heart of everything we do.

Despite the challenged context within which we operate we are proud of our achievements and recognise the hard work and dedication that runs throughout our teams.  Our focus remains on ensuring that our services are delivered safely and to a high quality, and that our staff have enjoyable, safe and fulfilling work lives. We continue to push boundaries and encourage innovation in order to deliver the best possible outcomes to those we serve.  Expanding research plays a vital role in improving mental and physical health outcomes across the region, and as a Trust we are committed to embedding research into everyday clinical practice, ensuring that patients benefit from the latest evidence-based treatments and innovations. Furthermore our role as a Lead Provider (for mental health, learning disability, child & family, and adult community services) within the ICS means that we play a central role in coordinating care, improving service models, and fostering collaboration across health and social care sectors. This includes leading initiatives in adult and children’s community services, mental health, learning disabilities, dementia care, and specialist support services.

This is a role for a visible and values-driven leader – one committed to fostering a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, continuous learning, and a culture premised around fairness and equity. The DCMO will support the implementation of our Clinical Strategy (which prioritises personalised care, neighbourhood-based services, and innovation in digital and outdoor care delivery) whilst also contributing to the development of integrated care models and population health management.  Ultimately this is a role which will be focussed on ensuring that our services are tailored to meet the needs of those we serve; and addressing the health inequalities present across the ICS.

We are seeking a senior medical leader who brings substantial experience in clinical leadership, ideally within mental health or community services; and a strong track record in clinical governance, strategic planning, and quality improvement. This is a time of significant transformation at a national, regional and local level.  The successful individual will be able to inspire and support staff through such change, drawing on both their clinical expertise and their strategic acumen to harness performance, garner confidence at all levels and deliver improved outcomes for our patients. With a visible and compassionate leadership style and a commitment to equity and inclusion, this is a role for an individual able to lead by example and demonstrate integrity and professionalism in all aspects of their work.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact in a Trust that is deeply rooted in its community and committed to continuous improvement. You will be joining a team that values staff wellbeing, professional growth, and inclusive leadership, and is reshaping services to reflect the changing needs of our population.
