Interview with Steve Russell, Chief Delivery Officer, NHS England

Steve Russell joined NHS England in February 2022 to lead the NHS COVID-19 vaccination and flu programmes before becoming National Director for Vaccinations and Screening and the Chief Delivery Officer. Before that Steve was Chief Executive of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and he has a decade’s worth of board level experience in NHS organisations.

In this Pride in Leadership interview, Steve Russell speaks to Robin Staveley, GatenbySanderson’s Health Practice Lead about:

  • his experience of sharing this side of himself and how that has changed and evolved over the years
  • advice and tips Steve would pass on to other leaders in the NHS and health sector, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community
  • plus, the experience of speaking at Pride in London last year to mark the NHS’ 75th anniversary and what conversations it sparked within the NHS
