The National Horizons Centre is a major new development by Teesside University, which will play a major role in addressing the growth needs of the bioscience, biotechnology and health technology sectors.  The aim is to deliver outstanding technical, leadership and digital skills developed in partnership with industry, underpinned by world-class research, innovation and teaching, to ensure we create the requisite graduates, postgraduates CPD  and innovation for the sectors.  It is scheduled for completion in Spring 2019.

The National Horizons Centre has been financially supported by the Local Growth Fund via the Tees Valley Combined Authority, the European Regional Development Fund and Teesside University. The Local Growth Fund contribution of £17.5m represents the single biggest investment by the fund in the Tees Valley.

We are seeking to appoint a Director to establish and lead the NHC, positioning it as a regional and national centre of excellence for the biosciences and related sectors. This is a unique opportunity and we are looking for an exceptional person to lead this exciting and innovative initiative.

The role requires a person who has significant experience of working at a senior level in the biosciences sector, with an excellent network and a clear track record in delivering critical targets.  The individual must have an innate ability to build and maintain business relationships at senior levels across related industrial sectors and an excellent understanding of both requirements and opportunities in the bioscience sector.

In addition, the individual will have an excellent understanding of government strategy, experience of developing funding bids and leading funded projects and a strong commitment to and experience of delivering excellent customer service.

Crucially, the Director will be expected to develop and implement a five-year delivery plan that addresses the needs of industry and aligns with cross-University expertise and external stakeholders’ requirements and lead on the commercial income generation plan.
