Shaw Education Trust was established three years ago to offer a better deal to children with Special Educational Needs, many of whom historically leave school with little chance of gaining employment or moving on to higher education. Shaw Trust, SET's sponsor has over 30 years of experience in helping those with disabilities or at disadvantage into employment. It therefore seemed to be a natural step to use this expertise to help special needs children.

Since these early days Shaw Education Trust has grown rapidly and has moved into to both mainstream secondary and primary schools, whilst maintaining its interest in those with special needs with schools stretching across Staffordshire, Birmingham and Greater Manchester. Over the last three years we have seen the development of high performing executive teams and the strengthening of leadership within each school enabling the adoption of an ambitious growth plan with the capability to adopt a further 7 schools a year.

Of course, growth is one thing, but high achievement of both schools and pupils is key to our ambition. The impressive progress to date has been achieved under the watchful eye of our founding Chair, Clive Richards. Having established such a firm foundation, he will be stepping down at the next AGM and Shaw Education Trust now seeks a new Chair who can guide the organisation through the next stage of growth.

We are seeking a high-calibre, deeply experienced senior leader who has a track record of leading organisations through growth. With standing in your field you will bring experience of operation at non-executive board level, ideally with direct experience as Chair, Trustee or Non-Executive Director. It is vital that you bring knowledge of the region in which we operate and the key influencers within it - it is likely that you will already have built positive personal reputation and standing in the region with key business and public service leaders and opinion formers.  

If you have in-depth experience of business, public administration, education or the Third Sector and feel you could drive the next stage of Shaw Education Trust's exciting development we would very much like to hear from you.
