Interim Operations Director – NHS Mental Health Services – October 2021 start date – 6 months duration – Band 9/VSM

We are seeking an Interim Operations Director for our client, an NHS Mental Health Trust in the North of England. The role is to start in mid-October 2021 and the duration of the contract is expected to run for 6 months. This role will attract a competitive day rate or VSM salary on a Fixed Term Contract and it will sit inside IR35. Our client is ideally looking for someone to undertake the role full time, however, they will consider someone 3-4 days per week as a minimum. In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to be on site at least 50% of the working week with the rest of the role conducted remotely.

The Job Role – The post-holder would be responsible for the overall delivery specialist mental health services within the regional patch. They would report into the Trust Chief Operating Officer and be directly responsible for managing 2 Associate Directors, a Senior Transformational Lead, as well as indirectly line managing other General Managers and Service Managers in the structure. The post-holder would be expected to deliver on key transformation plans, aligned to the NHS Mental Health Long Term Plan.  Our client is also looking for a strong leader who can build relationships with key stakeholders and staff members quickly, as well as deliver on specific projects for the service.  


The Person – Our Client are looking for someone with significant operational leadership experience gained whilst working in NHS Mental Health Services. Ideally, they will need to be a strategic thinker, with excellent problem-solving abilities and too. The successful candidate for this role will ideally hold a Masters Level Qualification or have equivalent work experience in this area. A clinical background is not essential but could be advantageous.
