Interim Project Director – Healthcare

Background - We are seeking an Interim Project Director on behalf of our Client – an NHS Provider organisation in the East of England who are going through an extremely exciting time as they plan the build and set up of a new publicly funded Children’s hospital which aims to integrate both Acute, Mental Health and Research services for Children and Young People on one purpose built site.

The Job Role – Currently the proposed plans are with NHSI, DHSC and HMT for approval whilst simultaneously work has commenced on the Outline Business Case.  The successful interim who undertakes this Project Director job will play a pivotal part in delivering the next phase of this high-profile and complex project, ensuring the focus, momentum and coherence of the programme of work is maintained.  Duties will involve but not be limited to:

  • Project Leadership - Provide senior leadership to the overall project and promote, encourage and facilitate the development of effective collaborative working on the project across joint project partners across the region.
  • Project Planning and Delivery - Managing the production of submissions and business cases together with other key stakeholders and providing expert professional knowledge. Identifying risks and issues, operating as a skilled negotiator, unblocking any progress towards delivery. Actively maintain a detailed overview of the project, coordinate the project workstreams, manage interdependencies and ensure realisation of projected benefits within agreed budgets.
  • Project Governance - Set and manage a project budget, monitoring expenditure and costs against delivered and realised benefits as the project progresses.  Be accountable for ensuring strategic and operational risks and issues are identified, prioritised, assessed and mitigated.
  • Line Management/ Team Membership - Coaching and inspiring other members of the team as relevant, recognising and acknowledging achievement and success whilst actively addressing poor performance as a line manager. Work closely with leaders, senior managers, clinicians and other members of the project team. Chair meetings to achieve outcomes as required.

 

The Person – The ideal candidate for this role will have experience of managing large-scale complex programmes and projects at a senior management level using recognised methodology (e.g. Prince) gained from working in the NHS or a similar environment. The ideal candidate will also have experience of similar projects such as a large new build or large strategic investment programmes. Additionally, interested applicants should be have people management experience, be an adept communicator and possess excellent leaderships skills to develop and maintain a diverse set of relationships within the project team, senior personnel from Government, the NHS, University, charity and commercial partners.

The role is required for 3 months+ pending recruitment to the permanent role.
