Director of Planning and Development

A London Borough are seeking an experienced Interim Director of Planning & Development to lead the organisation’s statutory planning and building control functions. The ideal candidate must have extensive local authority experience preferably in London and will be able to provide strategic leadership on the development and implementation of the Borough's Local Plan. They will provide professional advice on planning related matters, support members, and maintain the Borough’s exceptional performance indicators in respect of both major and minor planning applications and appeals.

Reporting to the Corporate Director, they will be a member of, or eligible for RTPI accreditation and have extensive experience and knowledge to enable enactment of the delegated functions of the Council’s Chief Planning Officer. They will oversee the delivery of an efficient and responsive development management service and convene and report to Planning Committees. They will work closely with colleagues in Regeneration and Housing and have the resilience and skills to thrive in a highly visible, accountable and professional environment with confidence and experience to negotiate complex, high value, development proposals to enhance the quality of the Borough as a whole.

This role is expected to run for 6 months with a start date of mid-February, and is inside IR35.
