Strategy and Programme Director
Location - Flexible across the North of England, but with a requirement to regularly work in Manchester
Working is a public-private partnership responsible for setting transport investment priorities for the North. Its members speak with one voice to Government, driving transformational economic growth and creating a vibrant, prosperous North through better connectivity.
As Strategy and Programme Director, you will play an important role in shaping the future of transport across the North of England, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. A commanding leader, you will have direct oversight of some of the North’s most significant and high-profile infrastructure projects across rail; road; freight; sea and air.
The work is pioneering and is changing the way transport is planned and delivered. You will make our vision a reality, taking ownership of the delivery of the long-term, pan-Northern strategy – the Strategic Transport Plan – and spearheading compelling evidence to support investment decisions.
You will twin strategic leadership with strong project management experience, alongside the confidence to communicate with a diverse and complex stakeholder community. A team of strategy, programme and appraisal professionals will look to you as an inspiring leader, in a role in which you will become a trusted external voice for and build your professional profile exponentially.
Your evidence-based work will be at the bedrock of the business cases that will deliver a step-change in investment in the North. Not only will you be a guiding voice in shaping strategy, you will manage the programme framework, holding partners to high standards and minimising risks.
This appointment requires not only extensive knowledge of transport planning and strategy, but an infectious passion to drive economic growth through change and take others on that journey. You will be adept at managing infrastructure projects, with a honed understanding of the regional and national policy context and political prowess. Your ability to turn technical information into coherent investment stories will help our communities see the broader picture.
To apply for this role, please submit an up to date copy of your CV, along with a Supporting Statement that addresses the criteria set out in the person specification, using examples to demonstrate how you meet the essential requirements. Please provide your home, work, mobile and email contact details and let us know of any dates when you are not available or where you may have difficulty with the indicative timetable. You should also provide the names, positions, organisations and contact details for two referees, one of whom should be your current or most recent employer. If you do not wish us to approach your referees without your prior permission, please state this clearly.
Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated email to confirm that you have applied. If you do not receive this email, please make contact with GatenbySanderson.
