This is an exciting time to join the Diocese of Oxford. With over 1,000 churches, schools and chaplaincies across the Thames Valley, we are one of the largest dioceses in the Church of England with significant influence and ambition across Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Our dedicated central staff work collaboratively with parishes and clergy to deliver a wide range of strategic and operational support of mission and ministry for the sake of God’s world.

As the Director of People and a member of the senior leadership team, you will help to deliver the diocesan strategy and find creative solutions for organisational challenges. With a talented team behind you, you can take on new initiatives that prioritise well-being, safeguarding, racial justice, diversity and inclusion. As a subject matter expert, you'll help drive policy and service improvements that enable our central team and parishes to flourish.

If you are a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) who has demonstrable HR leadership skills including strategy development, team management, and change implementation; if you possess excellent communication skills, are collaborative and resilient by nature, and can hold a complex and varied portfolio while maintaining a flexible attitude and approach, we would like to hear from you.

While you do not need to have worked within the Church of England previously, you will need, with our help, to quickly learn its structures, culture and dynamics. As a key senior leader in the diocese, you will be a Christian with an active faith and comfortable leading in an environment where reflection and empathy underpin our work. (Schedule 9, paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010 applies).

We want our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion for all to be reflected in the composition of our staff. We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates from communities currently underrepresented at senior levels in the diocese.
