The James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a vibrant university hospital, focused on providing the best possible care to a population of 250,000 residents across Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney, as well as to the many visitors who come to this part of East Anglia. We are very much a part of our local community.

We have a new five year strategy – Building a Healthier Future Together – launched this month.  We have consistently been rated as “Good” by our regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and our 4,000 people are talented and loyal, with a commitment to embrace and deliver improvement, innovation and change. We are one of the best performing Trusts in the region for staff recommending the Trust as a place to work.  Indeed, being the largest local employer, we want our people to be “proud to work at the Paget” and have safe, enjoyable and fulfilling careers with us, ensuring that our place in the community is strong. We are developing ambitious plans for digital transformation and a new hospital. As a teaching hospital, we are focused on research and innovation to ensure that our residents can receive high quality care across the entire healthcare system and work closely with our local system partners.

Whilst there is much to be proud, there are also areas for improvement.  Coming out of the pandemic, we are facing significant financial pressures so financial recovery and transformation are a significant focus and, more than ever, we need to be resilient and adaptable. Our maternity services have recently been inspected for the CQC domains of ‘well led’ and ‘safety’ as part of a programme of national reviews. Improvements are required in relation to staffing, governance and culture.  We have plans in place to address this, including new clinical leadership and investment and development of our workforce.

The Opportunity

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a well-regarded NHS organisation and help shape our future strategy to ensure that the James Paget and our partner organisations deliver excellent healthcare to the people of Norfolk and Waveney.

  • Leadership:  Leading our Unitary Board, you will show compassion for our staff and ensure that patients receive the service they deserve. You will enjoy being visible and collaborating with staff, patients, internal and system stakeholders alike, all for better outcomes for our community.
  • Strategic: You will understand the challenges of leading a complex public facing organisation and be skilled at working with Boards, focusing on culture, quality, efficiency and improvement.
  • Governance:  You will uphold and promote the Trust’s values and ensure high standards of corporate governance are maintained.
  • Partnerships: You will ensure that the voice and culture of the Paget and the community it serves are heard and respected and that the Paget plays a key role in collaborative working across the Norfolk and Waveney system for the benefit of local people.

We want our Board to be as inclusive and diverse as possible.  We encourage applications from individuals who bring lived experience that equips them both for the leadership aspects of the role but also brings an understanding of some of the challenges of our local communities.

If you would like to join a friendly and welcoming organisation that is committed to making life better for the people who live in our communities, then we would love to hear from you.
