As a leading professional engineering institution, we have over 21,000 members across 95 countries and our membership is diverse, comprising a broad range of specialisms. We consult the government on construction, engineering, and sustainability, providing the resources needed to meet net zero targets in the UK, Europe and worldwide.

With a turnover of c£6.5m, CIBSE Group is made up of three separate divisions:  the charitable institution, CIBSE Services and CIBSE Certification, the latter two being independent commercial.  Overall, the CIBSE Group employs over 70 permanent staff but works with several hundred volunteers from within the CIBSE membership community.  We have navigated the last couple of years carefully but positively and are in a strong and robust financial position.

We are fiercely proud of our heritage and history and have a justified reputation for excellence, exceptional quality and a refusal to accept second best.  Our guidance and information products are seen as ‘the bibles’ of building services around the world and the CIBSE moniker is recognised as a kitemark of quality.  But we also recognise that we need to modernise and improve if we want to become a high performing, exemplar professional engineering institution and capitalise on the high-profile position that CIBSE has in the current environment.

Membership excellence is critical to our growth and success. Now in year two of a five year strategy, we are looking for a new Director of Membership with the experience, credentials and energy to lead and develop the function in support of sustainable, international business growth, strong financial performance and a culture of continuous improvement in which excellence is the common goal. This is a strategic leadership role in a complex stakeholder and provider landscape, across which you will be required to inspire and elicit outstanding contributions from teams, volunteers and strategic partners alike, whilst contributing to the broader development of CIBSE as a member of the senior executive team.

You will be a strategic leader and outstanding communicator who will push boundaries on all fronts, championing and delivering on diversity and taking our membership experience to the next level through innovation and the smart use of digital, data and technology. We’re looking for dynamism, energy and ambition and a fear of boredom and complacency that drives you to seek opportunities and improvements.
