Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe, a regional and national centre for specialist treatment, a renowned biomedical research facility, and the local hospital for the city of Leeds. The Trust plays an important role in the training and education of medical, nursing and dental students and it is a centre of world-class research and innovation, pioneering new treatments.

1.7 million patients are treated every year, including more than 200,000 emergency attendances. The Trust  has a turnover of £1.4 billion and employs more than 20,000 staff in seven hospitals on five sites. We work with academia and industry to play a leading role in education, research and innovation. We are rated as a ‘good’ hospital Trust by the Care Quality Commission, and we have a strategy to continue improving to provide outstanding care for patients.

As a member of the board, the Executive Director of Strategy will be accountable for the development and refresh of Trust’s strategy, in particular for aligning and integrating portfolio strategies to ensure plans are coherent and integrated, and deliver the Trust’s Vision. You will be accountable for business planning, ensuring that strategy is translated into integrated action through the planning and objective setting processes. You will also be a member of the Trust’s Executive Team with discrete areas of responsibility – strategic development, business planning and business/commercial development. This role carries external responsibilities including LTHT’s critical partnership roles in the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts, the West Yorkshire ICS, and with health and care partners in Leeds. Finally, you will oversee LTHT’s contribution to establishing an Innovation Village in Leeds city centre, and contribute to the £650m investment in new hospitals at the LGI site.

To succeed in this role you will need a detailed understanding of the policy developments impacting on the health sector in England and the future opportunities and challenges; this should be supported by extensive successful senior management experience in a large and complex organisation. Additionally you will need to demonstrate you have highly developed specialist knowledge in healthcare strategy, planning and delivery. You will need to demonstrate how your approach will support and contribute to the Leeds Way, which forms the foundation of our culture, our ethos and how we work every day.
