This new role – our Director of Planning, Decarbonisation and Engagement – is central to the way we deliver our vision. The role will have a strong focus on people and places:  ensuring that local communities enjoy a proper standard of living and are actively engaged in the work of the Authority, working with partners and stakeholders across Pembrokeshire, and Wales, and through our international links, abroad as well.  The successful candidate will be expected to generate, and to contribute towards, corporate policies and programmes within the Authority, and within a wider Welsh context.  Crucially, you will provide the leadership for the delivery of the Authority’s statutory planning function as well as contributing to the Climate Change agenda, engaging with local communities, utilising the National Park to improve health and well-being and ensuring that people from all backgrounds are able to enjoy the National Park. You will be expected to travel, to act as advocate for our vision, and enhance our image and perception through your work, and your presence.

To be successful, you will need a solid track record, underpinned with relevant qualification, of leadership in the delivery of planning and place-related functions such as planning, economic development, local authority, land or visitor attraction management or tourism. What matters as much as your background is what you will bring. You will need to be an inspirational leader able to work effectively in partnership with local communities and stakeholders. Politically astute, you should also be able to navigate complex policy areas and have a strong belief in the value of local democracy and accountability. You will share our passion and commitment to delivering for our communities and protecting future generations and demonstrate a track record as a capable strategic leader within a comparably complex organisation.
