At the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), everything we do is focused on making life better for the people of the West Midlands – that’s our reason for existence and is at the core of everything we do. The WMCA is a partnership of 18 local authorities and three Local Enterprise Partnerships. Together, our mission is to lead and support others to deliver our shared future vision for the region – to be a happier, healthier and better connected place to live and work.

We have recently invested in our growing legal team and completed a governance review to ensure we continue to develop effective partnerships with our Members and that our processes are resilient.  But we are not standing still! You will continue to develop and embed the improvements we have made, shaping our teams, our external relationships and improvements to our practice. Our new Director will enhance the effectiveness of our governance processes across major schemes of work ensuring the Combined Authority delivers the best outcomes for our communities and that we maximise our investments.

The successful candidate will be someone who sees legal services as an enabler, managing risk whilst continually seeking opportunity in how we operate and do business.  Most importantly, you will be a skilled relationship manager, able to engage with a wide range of stakeholder groups, including politicians. This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation that is impacting the lives of millions of people and where professionally you will be challenged in your capacity as a lawyer and in your work with a diverse range of partners.

The Employer

WMCA are committed to creating an accessible and diverse workplace; one that nurtures an inclusive environment where our people can be themselves. We are a “Leaders in Diversity” accredited organisation, are in the Inclusive Top 50 Employers List and are one of The Times Top 50 Employers for Women. As a Disability Confident Employer, we have made a positive commitment to interviewing all applicants with a disability who meet the essential role criteria. We are committed to developing an organisation that is representative of the diverse communities that we serve and welcome applications from young people, Black, Asian and ethnic minority groups and women at senior levels.

Our core values are to be collaborative, innovative, driven and inclusive. If your values align with ours and you’re committed to working towards creating a future that we can all be proud of, we want to hear from you.
