This role can be located at any of the DIO principal hubs which are Andover, London, Whittington (DIO HQ) Glasgow and Wyton. Regardless of location regular travel will be required around the UK, and routinely into London.
DIO enables Defence people to live, work, train and deploy at home and overseas and we are proud to be the expert partner Defence needs for all their infrastructure requirements. As one of the largest landowners in the UK we manage assets worth £28bn, with an annual budget of £3.3bn. Major Programmes and Projects (MPP) is responsible for the delivery of capital infrastructure projects across all of Defence. We deliver a vast array of projects from hangars and runways, jetties and maritime, technical and operational, logistics and storage, living accommodation and messing, and recreation and sports facilities for both UK and US Visiting Armed Forces customers. Our programme of works includes high value Defence Major Projects Portfolio and a high volume of major capital infrastructure projects across the UK and Overseas Defence Estate.
The Director DIO Major Programmes and Projects will be accountable for the delivery of a large scale, diverse and technically complex Infrastructure portfolio. Working with front-line commands, you will make optimal decisions about what to build and where to build it and deliver greater value for defence. You will also develop an already capable team to attain further achievement. You will lead a team of some 400 staff and directly line manage personnel from the Army, Navy and Air Force as well as civilians. Ramping up our major project delivery capability will also give you the opportunity to build a really high-performing delivery organisation.
We are looking for an exceptional leader who has clear experience of leading and delivering a portfolio of large-scale infrastructure construction projects across either the public or private sector. You will be a driven, resilient and adaptive leader operating at a comparable level, who has the credibility and passion to drive innovative solutions to enhance customer and partner satisfaction. You will have the confidence and charisma to engage and influence up to Board level actively contributing to broad leadership in Defence. You need to be passionate about developing the potential of others and committed to improving our delivery of infrastructure services to industry-leading standards.

Security and Vetting: If successful, the applicant will have to undergo security vetting as a condition of employment. This post requires Developed Vetting (DV). Individuals should normally have been resident in the UK for 5 years preceding their application for DV clearance.
