Located in Central London, the Barbican is one of the world’s leading arts and education organisations, welcoming over a million visitors and hundreds of artists every year. We are both a civic space for our communities and a multi-platform venue showcasing the best artists, musicians, directors and actors to global audiences. With the City of London Corporation as our founder, owner and principal funder – the Barbican is uniquely placed to build on its many successes over the past 40 years.
Head of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Barbican Centre | £58,710 - £66,400, inclusive of London Weighting.
In this newly created role, you will own and lead our equity, diversity and inclusion policies and actions, addressing all aspects of discrimination and barriers to inclusion, enabling our organisation to achieve our creative vision. Reporting to our Director of People, Inclusion and Culture, you will work effectively across all levels within our organisation to deliver the change required, whilst engaging with external stakeholders including artists, the wider creative sector and community organisation to champion our EDI work and progress.
We are looking for more than just policies and strategies. You will translate policy into action, and action into results, embedding EDI into everything the Barbican does, increasing the level of accountability across our Directors, senior managers and the wider organisation.
We are looking for a leader who is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion, wanting to make a significant impact in a world-renowned organisation. To make this impact, you will have a deep understanding of ED&I theory and best practice, and a demonstrable record of embedding action that has led to tangible, positive change.
This role is not just about doing what is already being done. You will have a creative and innovative mindset that seeks out new ways of delivering change and transformation to deliver business objectives. Resilient and resolute, your commitment to driving positive change in equity, diversity & inclusion will be your long-term ambition.
A high level of emotional intelligence will help you navigate the often sensitive issues linked to ED&I, and your effective communication skills will allow you to influence internal and external stakeholders to drive the sustained change we are looking for.
As the organisational lead for diversity, inclusion, and equity, your role will be key in ensuring the Barbican a part of the City of London Corporation is able to fulfil its obligations under the Equality Act 2010, including the Equality Framework for Local Government and Public Sector Equality Duties and any other relevant legislation.
