Joined Up Care Derbyshire (JUCD) has a strong record of delivery and improvement as a Sustainability and Transformation Partnership since 2016 and we are proud of what we have achieved by working together.  With a population of circa 1.06 million people we are a large system which is both complex and cohesive.  Our partners include two upper tier local authorities with 8 Borough and District Councils, four NHS Foundation Trusts providing hospital and community based care, one Out of Hours provider, two Place Partnerships, 15 Primary Care Networks and a region wide Ambulance service.  We also have residential and care home providers and multiple voluntary, community and independent sector organisations.

Derby and Derbyshire is a diverse region with vibrant urban areas as well as a vast rural landscape.  Whilst we have made significant progress as a system there is much more that we need to do to tackle health inequalities.  Life expectancy in our populations is lower than the national average with a significant gap in health life expectancy between the most and least deprived areas.  Our focus is to work together to improve outcomes for the people we serve and to ensure they have the best start in life, to stay well, age well and die well.  Our model of care focuses on looking after people in their home or local area so they get the targeted care needed to get better more quickly, instead of concentrating on providing services from specific buildings. At the heart of joining up care is to preventing people from getting ill in the first place, by creating strong and vibrant communities; helping people them take good care of themselves and be able to deal with issues before they become bigger problems.

Following the appointment of our ICB Chair Designate John MacDonald and ICB Designate Chief Executive, Dr Chris Clayton, this is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and compassionate Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join our Executive leadership team.   Working in unity with our Chief Nurse you will oversee quality of health and care services, developing collaborative relationships with system partners across both organisational and professional boundaries to improve the quality of care and outcomes. Leading on the development of our clinical strategy ensuring this reflects and integrates the strategies of relevant partners across the system, the CMO is a broad role also the ICB lead for research and innovation, and the Clinical Information Officer.  Responsible for building partnerships and collaborating with provider collaboratives, public health, local government, other partners, and local people to deliver better access, improvements in life outcomes and reductions in health inequity, we are seeking an innovative and strategic medical leader who brings substantial experience within a Board and/or significant senior leadership experience within a regulatory environment.  Confident and credible in leading highly complex quality improvement/clinical change at scale, your clear and inspiring communication style will empower our multi-professional medical workforce to transform our health and care landscape, improving the health and wellbeing of our populations for now and the future.

We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit. We particularly welcome applications from people who are from groups which are underrepresented at senior levels in the NHS and wider society, and we are a Disability Confident Employer.
