The James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (JPUH) is a vibrant university hospital providing the best possible care to a population of 250,000 residents across Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney, as well as to the many visitors who come to this part of East Anglia. At the heart of our local community, our vision is “to be outstanding in everything that we do” supported by the values and behaviours that we expect from every single member of our team.

Rated as “Good” by our regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in 2019 for the fourth consecutive time, we provide a full range of general acute services plus a number of specialised services. We work with local primary care colleagues, community services and other acute trusts, to ensure that patients receive the best care in the right place. We are a member of Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System, and work alongside the local and regional health and social care system across the area and at local place level to ensure that people can live as healthy a life as possible.

Focused on improving services for our local communities we are working together with NHS partners (the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust King’s Lynn) to enhance the range of acute services and facilities. We moved to a Committees in Common structure from September 2020 and are in further discussion about future closer collaboration.

We are seeking a new Chief Medical Officer to provide professional and managerial leadership to all Trust medical staff and to foster a culture of transformation and excellence through encouraging innovation in medical practice and clinical services.  You will also ensure the delivery of outstanding medical education and effective workforce planning.

As an Executive Director you will work closely with our new Chief Executive, Chair, and other Directors in defining the Trust’s strategy and business plan. You will be the Trust’s Responsible Officer and oversee medical appraisal and revalidation as well as ensuring the alignment of job plans to operational needs.  Alongside the Chief Nursing Officer, you will play a key role in clinical governance and clinical leadership.

With extensive medical leadership experience drawn from an acute setting, you bring significant experience of leading service design and improvement initiatives. You will have expertise in working across organisational boundaries, as well as driving forward further collaboration with a focus on making things better for our patients and staff.

If you are aligned with our values and behaviours and lead with authenticity and compassion then we would be delighted to hear from you.

We are committed to improving the diversity of our Board and Trust and, whilst welcoming applications from all suitably experienced candidates, wish to encourage applications from ethnic minority, disabled and LGBTQ+ people.  Applications will be considered on their individual merits.
