University Hospitals Sussex is one of the largest and most complex NHS Trusts in England.  With a workforce of nearly 20,000 and an operating budget of more than £1 billion we run seven hospitals as well as numerous community and satellite services, responsible for all district general acute services for Brighton and Hove, West and Mid Sussex and parts of East Sussex. We also provide specialised and tertiary services across Sussex and parts of the South East, including neuroscience, arterial vascular surgery, neonatology, specialised paediatric, cardiac, cancer, renal, infectious diseases and HIV medicine services.

Our vision ‘Excellent care, every time’ is at the heart of all that we do - we pride ourselves in putting the compassionate care of patients first and foremost.  With a re-shaped leadership team and new Chief Executive recently announced we are recruiting two New Managing Directors (MDs).

The newly created roles will, alongside the Hospital Directors of Operations, form the Deputy Chief Executive & Chief Operating Officer’s senior team and are collectively responsible for the discharge of the Deputy Chief Executive & Chief Operating Officer’s objectives.

The MD for Planned Care and Cancer is responsible for the strategic management and delivery of planned care and cancer services and operational management and planning of the Surgery and Critical Care, Cancer and Specialist divisions.

The MD for Unscheduled Care is responsible for the strategic management and delivery of unscheduled care, diagnostic services and operational management and planning of the Medicine and Urgent Care, Women’s and Children’s and Clinical Support Services divisions. Both roles will be responsible for ensuring that key quality, service performance and financial objectives are met.

If you are an experienced leader of Operations with significant experience drawn from the Acute Healthcare sector then we would like to hear from you. You will be responsible for the delivery of services with maximum efficiency, promoting service improvement and best clinical pathways and ensuring that regulatory targets and compliance against quality, risk and governance standards are met. With inspirational leadership skills and values that align with ours, you will provide leadership to your portfolio of services across the Trust and support our role as a key player in the newly forming Sussex Integrated Care System to ensure that excellent healthcare is provided to the population of Sussex.
