Established in 1980, AAT is both a professional body and a regulated awarding organisation that provides a range of professional support and internationally recognised qualifications for accounting technicians. With circa 220 – 230 colleagues and 125,000 members, we operate with considerable reach across a complex international landscape. Anticipating and responding to frequent changes in industry, regulation, and education to support the profession has never been more relevant or important.  At AAT, our mission is to promote financial skills to empower and enable people and businesses to achieve their potential.  In doing so, we are committed to having a positive impact on society; achieving greater diversity in the sector through social mobility and equality of opportunity, whilst also enabling global economic health and prosperity.

Our appointment of a talented Director of Marketing and Commercial will be key to enabling us to support the accountancy profession at a challenging time. The past two years have served to heighten our awareness of the environment in which our students and members operate and, like many organisations, we have not been immune to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have maintained financial and operational health, and have taken the opportunity to accelerate many aspects of our strategy. We have downsized some areas of our business, developed remote invigilation for our assessments and embraced agile working arrangements, enabling both business continuity and an improved member experience. We have also forged ahead with important societal work in support of our members, maintaining a strong voice and influence with the UK government and other key stakeholders.

We are looking for a strategic, inspiring and energetic leader with a track record of having successfully architected and implemented commercial strategies and launched new products that have delivered profitable revenue growth, ideally in an internationally active organisation of similar scale, scope and complexity.  Whist prior exposure to the accounting profession will be beneficial, we’re open minded regarding your background, cognisant of the lessons we can learn from other sectors, and we’re open to challenge on how we approach markets.  An understanding of the education sector, however, would be advantageous.

This is an Executive Director role, so in addition to a broad commercial skill set encompassing product life cycle management, market and business development credentials and customer experience excellence, we’re looking for a strategic team player with substantive leadership credentials and the ability to improve, inspire and make a difference. As we seek to grow and diversify, your leadership capability will also need to extend beyond the usual organisational boundaries to elicit strong performance from our partners and operate with gravitas and credibility at the highest levels of industry, government and education.

It’s an exciting time to join AAT and we would love you to join us on our journey. We’re in the Best Companies top 75 of London’s best large companies to work for 2021 and we are currently going through a cultural transformation.
