Location: The NDA operates 17 sites across the UK and has offices in Cumbria, Warrington and London. The ability and willingness to travel around the UK will be essential.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) plays a role of national importance; cleaning up our nuclear legacy in a safe, secure and cost-effective way, and securing disposal of nuclear materials into the future to enable the UK’s green economy. The NDA has a strategic role which establishes the overall approach to the decommissioning and waste management work across its wider group and oversees its safe and efficient delivery through the NDA’s group of companies. The Chair and non-executive members of the Board, working together with the CEO and Executive team, have an important role in providing united leadership across the diverse group.

Board members provide oversight of the NDA and work with government, regulators and other key stakeholders to shape the organisation’s strategy and play a leading role in developing the organisation to deliver its challenging mission in a better way. The NDA is seeking an exceptional non-executive Board member to join its Board and chair the important Audit and Risk Assurance Board committee. This Board committee was established to ensure the continuous monitoring of the effectiveness of the risk assurance control framework established by the Board.

As Chair of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, you will advise and report to the NDA Board on strategic processes for risk management, control and governance; assurances relating to the effectiveness and quality of the group risk management framework; anti-fraud and accounting policies; financial reporting; and internal and external audit plans, activities and performance. These responsibilities extend to the core NDA and the wider NDA Group.

The ideal candidate will have audit committee experience as a non-executive on the Board of a complex organisation, possess a chartered accountant or equivalent qualification with relevant financial expertise at an organisation of comparable scale and complexity, as well as experience of overseeing risk at Board level. A previous track record of shaping and implementing strategy and delivering transformational change is further required. Risk committee experience, experience chairing a Board or Board committees as a non-executive and experience working with the public sector is desirable. The NDA value the unique differences that each colleague bring to work every day and are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, included, and able to perform at their best.

This is a hugely exciting, challenging and rewarding position in which decisions over the coming years can carry weight for the next generation and beyond.

The NDA are committed to creating a workplace that is diverse and inclusive, and therefore particularly welcome applications from women, BAME, LGBT+ and disabled candidates.
