The Executive Dean of Edinburgh Business School & School of Social Sciences is a unique and exciting role. It seeks to leverage the pioneering and entrepreneurial heritage of Edinburgh Business School with the deep traditions of Heriot-Watt University as a leading research-led university and provider of education with global reach.
Edinburgh Business School and the wider School of Social Sciences are major contributors to the success of the University, and is composed of an expanded Edinburgh Business School, and the Departments of Psychology and Languages & Intercultural Studies. It is the largest school within the institution in terms of both income and the number of students –over 6500 students at our three global locations and more than 10,000 studying wholly online.
The Executive Dean reports to the Vice Principal & Provost and is a core member of the Global Operations Executive, which is charged with the operationalisation of the University’s strategy, Strategy 2025. Edinburgh Business School and the School of Social Sciences are playing a leading role in the delivery of Strategy 2025 through substantial growth in education and training provision, including executive education, and research, enterprise & innovation, and the University is committed to supporting this growth through substantial investment.
We are seeking an Executive Dean to lead the growth of the Edinburgh Business School and the School of Social Sciences to excellence by developing and delivering an inspiring plan for the School. This plan will drive up student satisfaction into the top decile of the sector within five years and move Edinburgh Business School into the top 50 internationally by 2030 if not before.
The ideal candidate will have a strong external profile and will bring substantial leadership experience at a senior level which spans multi-national business and/or academia. With outstanding financial and business acumen expressed in tone and aspiration, candidates will have a track record of successfully leading major change in diverse cultural contexts and a values-led approach to leadership.
